AUTHOR LAB SIGN UP

Thanks for your interest in Author Lab English. This takes about 10 minutes, plus 30 minutes for your child's writing sample. The sample matters most: it shows me where your child is now, so I can group and pitch the course correctly from day one.

Writing sample instructions for parents:

  1. Set aside 30 minutes in a quiet spot.

  2. Your child picks ONE prompt below.

  3. A few minutes to plan, then about 20 minutes to write.

  4. Handwritten or typed is fine, but no spellcheck or grammar tools.

  5. You may read the prompt aloud. Please don't help with ideas, spelling or corrections, and don't fix it afterwards. The mistakes tell me exactly what to teach.

Prompts:

  • A. Story: You open your front door and find something that definitely shouldn't be there. What happens next?

  • B. Explain: Teach me about something you know a lot about. Imagine I know nothing about it.

  • C. Opinion: Should kids be allowed to choose what they learn? Give your reasons.
